One of the most recognisable figures in the local football industry, Wati actually started out as a netball player before being recommended by good friend Ernie Sontaril to switch at the age of 19 because their school lacked a goalkeeper.
The rest was history, as she soon made the position her own at both the club and national levels.
Thirteen years on, the vocal and commanding Wati is still going strong and is the second-most capped Singapore female with 45 appearances (as of Oct 2022). An impressive SEA Games 2021 campaign has given her extra vigour as she hopes to play on into her late 30s like her idol Hope Solo – perhaps even till 40.
