Chun-Liang ChewChief Executive Officer
Having spent 23 years as a Naval Officer with the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), Chew Chun-Liang was always going to be a good fit for the Lion City Sailors. Appointed Chief Executive of the Sailors in 2021, Chun-Liang has been tasked to enhance the management and operations of the club, building out the systems and structure in line with the Sailors’ vision of representing excellence on and off the pitch. More than that, however, he also wants to engage the local football fraternity and the wider Singapore public, with the aim of sparking pride in local football.
Badri GhentGeneral Manager
The main man spearheading the Lion City Sailors at an executive level, Badri Ghent has already set several firsts in the local game despite his relative youth. This includes being the youngest-ever Team Manager, and later, General Manager, of a professional football club in Singapore, when he was appointed to the two roles at Home United in 2014 and 2017 respectively. Badri, who was instrumental in the privatisation of the Sailors, now oversees the direction of the club – and he’s determined to bring us to the very top.
Kim Do-hoonHead Coach
Kim Do-hoon joined the Lion City Sailors in May 2021, with the mission of bringing success to the club and taking Sailors’ football to the next level. And he comes with Asian football pedigree. Kim led South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai to victory in the 2020 AFC Champions League, in a period of success that also saw the K League 1 side win the FA Cup. The former South Korean international scored 30 times for his country in an illustrious playing career, including a match-winner against a Brazil side that included Rivaldo, Juninho Pernambucano and Cafu, in 1999.
Myung Jae YongAssistant Coach
Lion City Sailors welcome another AFC Champions League winner in Myung Jae Yong, who joins the club as Assistant Coach. The South Korean was an FA Cup winner with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, and again as a coach at Ulsan Hyundai where his partnership with Kim Do-hoon was firmly established. That partnership is now renewed at the Sailors, as Myung looks to augment the club’s drive for excellence and on-field success.
Noh RahmanAssistant Coach
After an illustrious 20-year playing career which saw him win numerous domestic and international trophies, former Singapore captain Noh Rahman finally hung up his boots at the end of 2016 and ventured into coaching. Known for his professionalism and work ethic, Noh is naturally regarded as a role model for the Lion City Sailors players. As Assistant Coach of the Sailors, Noh works closely with the Head Coach – both on and off the pitch – to plot the Sailors’ course to success.
Chua Lye HengGoalkeeper coach
As the Lion City Sailors’ goalkeeper coach, Lye Heng is focused on ensuring that our custodians are always well-prepared to protect our goal. Lye Heng himself was a goalkeeper during his youth, before venturing into the sport of sepak takraw, where he made a name for himself as a successful school coach. The former Singapore national team goalkeeper coach possesses a Goalkeeping Level 3 coaching licence from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) – the highest level of certification available from the organisation.
Mario JovanovicHead of Performance
Having previously worked with some of the best talents in European and Asian football, Mario knows just what it takes for a player to reach the top level. As Head of Sports Science, Mario’s long-term aim is to develop the Sailors’ training process, so as to maximise the potential of the players. On a day-to-day basis, Mario and his specialist team of strength and conditioning coaches, as well as sports trainers, focuses on optimising player conditioning, while also helping players recover from injury.
Firdaus MaasarFootball Physiologist
Firdaus Maasar brings English Premier League experience to the Sailors, having worked in world class setups at Liverpool, as well at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town. His experience at the world-renown Aspire Academy in Qatar puts him in good stead to contribute to the Sailors’ first team driving for on-field success, as well as the club’s aspirations of nurturing the next generation of elite Singapore football talents.
Nasruldin BaharuddinPerformance Coach
As the Lion City Sailors Senior Fitness Coach, Nasruldin plays an important part in readying our players for the physical aspect of the game. A key part of the Sailors’ technical team, the experienced and knowledgeable Nasruldin is not afraid to push our players hard in training so as to get them in the best condition for the rigours of the season.
Shazaly AyobPerformance Coach
In his role as the Lion City Sailors’ Sports Performance Coach, Shazaly Ayob is in charge of ensuring that our players always remain in tip-top shape. The experienced fitness trainer, who previously worked with the likes of Warriors FC and the Football Association of Singapore, prides himself as a tough taskmaster who will have no qualms in pushing his players to their limits in a bid to get their fitness to a world class level.
Nurhafizah Abu SujadHead of Physiotherapy
In the 10 years that she served in the national football setup, Fizah’s personal touch and fervent dedication to her craft earned her the reputation of the Florence Nightingale of local football – and one of the best physiotherapists in the country.
The former national youth netballer has set her sights on developing high-level sports science and sports medicine expertise in the country, a vision very much aligned with the Sailors’. Fizah joined the club in July 2021, with exactly that mission – supporting the club’s drive for football excellence by building a sturdy support structure of sports science and sports medicine – while she continues to support the national football cause during FIFA international windows
Fazly HasanSports Trainer
If you need advice on how to prevent injury, there’s no better person to ask than Lion City Sailors Sports Trainer Fazly Hassan. With close to five years of experience as a sports trainer, the former Geylang and Hougang United player is key in helping our players fully recover from the rigours of training and matches. His knowledge and expertise in this area also allows him to holistically guide our injured players through their recovery process in a safe and responsible manner.
Danial FerizaSport Trainer
A former national Sepak Takraw player who represented Singapore at the SEA Games, Danial is no stranger to the demands of high performance sports. That experience serves Danial, who has a Bachelor of Science from Edith Cowan University, in good stead in his role as Lion City Sailors’ Sports Scientist. Armed with a deep understanding of what top level athletes need in order to excel, Danial’s main task at the Sailors is to make sure that our players are operating at their optimum performance levels when they take the field for a game.
Fathul Nur HakimSports Therapist
Fathul is an accomplished Sports Therapist whose main task is to help our players recover from their injuries as quickly as possible. Knowledgeable and thorough, Fathul is an integral part of the Lion City Sailors’ Sports Science team.
Richard ChitrakarTeam Manager
As Team Manager of the Lion City Sailors, Richard focuses on the administrative aspects of player management, while also helping to maintain the discipline and morale of the squad. A former professional player himself who turned out for the likes of SAFFC and Sembawang Rangers during the 90s, Richard understands the demands of being a footballer, and so, is able to connect with the players under his care.
Zahir TaufeekLogistics Officer
Lion City Sailors Logistics Officer Zahir Taufeek plays a vital role in making sure that our players and staff are always well-equipped for both training and matches. Previously the kitman for the Young Lions and the Singapore National Team, Zahir joined Home United in 2011, and has since established himself as an essential member of our backroom staff.
Kim Young KwangVideo Analyst
Kim Young Kwnag is no stranger to Singapore football, he was a forward with Singapore Premier League side Balestier Khalsa in 2011, scoring 8 goals in his solitary season here. Instead of driving the Sailors’ on-field ambitions, Kim’s contributions will now come as a Video Analyst, but his thirst for success has not abated. Kim is the Sailors’ third AFC Champions League winner, reuniting with Ulsan Hyundai colleagues, Myung Jae Yong and Head Coach Kim Do-hoon.
Adi SalehVideo Analyst
A former professional goalkeeper who turned out for the likes of Home United, SAFFC, and Gombak United in the late 90s to mid-2000s, Adi is the Lion City Sailors resident video analyst. With his vast experience in football – which includes more than a decade as a goalkeeping coach – Adi is crucial in cataloguing and analysing footage of our games, as well as that of our opponents.
Daniel LauData Analyst
A long-time supporter of the Lion City Sailors, from back when it was known as Home United, Daniel’s main goal is to help the club he loves reach the pinnacle of football in Singapore and the region. As the club’s data analyst, he uses numbers and statistics to paint a more holistic picture of what is happening on the pitch for the technical team.
Robin ChitrakarU21 Head Coach
As the Head of Youth Development at the Lion City Sailors, Robin Chitrakar’s main role is to help the club’s brightest young talents grow into the top stars of tomorrow. A former National Team player, Robin has more than 10 years of experience working with youth footballers, and has helped bring through some of Singapore’s best players – including the likes of Faris Ramli and Gabriel Quak – over the last decade. Robin, who has an AFC Professional Coaching Diploma under his belt, is a well-respected figure within the club, and was entrusted to lead the Sailors as interim Head Coach following the departure of Aurelio Vidmar at the end of April 2021.
Winston YapU21 Coach
A former Singapore international whose professional playing career spanned nearly 15 years, Winston is a familiar face to fans of local football in the 2000s. Having transitioned to a coaching career after his retirement, Winston has established himself as a dedicated and reliable coach who has a passion for developing youth players. Now with the Lion City Sailors as the assistant coach to our Under-21 team, Winston will be hoping to develop the next generation of football stars for both the club, as well as for the Singapore National Team.
Jun Guang YeoU21 Goalkeeper Coach
Jun Guang has always had a passion for working with youth footballers, and in particular, goalkeepers. His philosophy is that goalkeepers should be developed to prioritise proactive action over reactive action. Jun Guang, who possesses an AFC Goalkeeping Coaching Certificate (Level 2), will be looking to groom the next generation of goalkeeping stars for the Sailors.
